Canterbury manufacturer Bowron Sheepskins has teamed with footwear label Mi Piaci to produce several shearling styles.

The Home collection was inspired by the beauty of New Zealand's backyard and provided an opportunity for the design team to include a locally produced material that is synonymous with Kiwi life – shearling.

Bowron Sheepskins was established by brothers George and William Bowron when they arrived in Christchurch from Yorkshire England in 1879. The master tanners set sail to bring their skills and knowledge to New Zealand with the dream of opening up a tannery bearing their own name. It wasn’t long before the small tannery began to flourish and a long-standing family tradition in sheepskin tanning and manufacturing began.

Mi Piaci Lead Designer Sarah Street says the Dandy Boot and Benson Slipper are both standout pieces in the range, she says.

“These styles really celebrate our beautiful home and all that it can provide. Sheepskin is such a quintessentially New Zealand fabric and we loved the idea of being able to work with a Kiwi company to bring that to the fore”  says Mi Piaci Lead Designer Sarah Street.

The limited-edition Benson and Dandy styles embody feelings of safety, familiarity and security – all of which are deeply linked to the notion of ‘home’.

Working with Bowron has not been Mi Piaci’s first collaborative effort with a local business and it likely won’t be the last.

Mi Piaci’s Home collection is available now from - the Benson and Dandy styles will be available in May.
